CALL FOR SCORES

Emerging Composers

Goals:

encourage the creation of socially and culturally aware new works for classically-oriented large choirs.

Promote compositions by emerging composers from historically marginalized groups (i.e. BIPOC, LGBTQI+, and women composers)

Submission Requirements:

  • There are no stylistic restrictions on scores except that they be written for a large choral ensemble.

  • Your composition should be at least three minutes long and no more than ten minutes

  • If there are instruments, please make a piano reduction.

Singers for the event will include the Portland Symphonic Choir membership, students from the Portland metro area, PSC alumni, and community members.

Prizes:

Composers selected to participate in the Summer Sings New Works reading session will each receive a $300 stipend and are encouraged to attend the reading session in the summer, though attendance is not mandatory.

One composition of the three will be chosen for performance on Portland Symphonic Choir’s Wintersong 2024 concert. Please note that Wintersong is a choral concert with piano only.
